Slate writing tablets and pencils. Similar writing tablets are known from Europe beginning in the 15th century. The tablets being easily erasable, were often used for honing children’s writing skills. Although slate tablets appear locally towards the end of the Ottoman Period (these were written on with gypsum or quicklime pens), the use of slate pencils on the other hand has never been documented. Therefore:
